Two Weeks Out.

Closing in on the 50th (!) birthday trip. I think I'm actually going to live to see it.

A big birthday and now a bigger trip. 4 full days and a night to ring in what will likely (hopefully) be the last third of my life. If I can make it to 75 that'd be a moon-sized bonus. I still have something like a functioning body and mind, and since that could well not be the case long into the future, I'm going to make the most of it while it's still operational.

Not trying to be morbid, but anyone who's actually read this blog (ha!) will know I've had my share of physical issues. That being said, I've managed them successfully enough, and I have at least one more trip into the breach of FunTown to make the most of it.

Nothing much else to report. Had a few extra bucks this week so decided to book a more-legroom seat on the return flight on Spirit. Figure every little bit helps on that shit hole of an airline. I'll have one full paycheck before the trip and one during to help replenish the $4500 I'll be expending on it, so it should more or less balance out assuming I don't spend every penny, but if I do, so much the better. That will mean I had a balls out trip, which is the point. Still enough to pay down some debt after and do some car work I've been putting off.

Speaking of the car, thankfully I won't have to pay to park it in a lot this time, I will be leaving work at around 2p on the Tuesday to guarantee being able to get a Tuesday side parking spot after the street cleaner goes by so I will be able to leave it there until I'm back to work Monday. Saves a little dosh, though realistically I probably could have left it in the lot at Merck this time too since it's so close to the airport. This way no worries, just dump it off here, hit the bank around 4p and head off to the airport on the SAMTRANS bus.

This will be a minimal freebie trip so I'm not even going to do a post on it. I had no comps on the rooms, though the rate at HRH was really good for the Tue-Fri nights. Last night at Luxor was about the best I was going to do on short notice and at least it's not a base room there. No reason to shell out for luxury when it's just one night. I will cash in one myVegas thing for around 50K LP's, probably for the Luxor sushi place discount, then likely dump the app. But I've said that approximately 47 times so I don't know. Nothing else to speak of this trip.

Not much else to do but wait. Haven't had much hype for this trip since I went the last two months and I've had the new job to distract me, but now as we close in I'm starting to get a heat on. This is a big one and I intend to enjoy the living fuck out of it.

This is going to be a baller-ass vacation. Private planes, 1100 sq ft suites in a 5-star resort, steaks and high-end sashimi. We be living  good  on the 55th birthday trip. It all starts with flying semi-private on JSX in and out. Flown with them a couple times before, SO much less hassle than dealing with the fucking major airports. Private terminal, no TSA, no bag worries, big cushy seats, free drinks. Hopping on in OAK and will just UBER it to and from. So much more evolved than being basically violated by TSA in the normal airports.  Then on arrival in LAS it's in the taxi and over to Resorts World. I have added early check-in to standby, so hopefully I can just roll straight up to the room at 1:30p. It's the One Bedroom Suite at the Conrad, 1100 sq ft of lovely at the north end of the strip. No resort hopping this time, one room, one unpack, one relax.  Trying to think back, pretty sure this will be the biggest room I've ever had in Vegas, I think Encore or Dela...

A decent haul, y'all. -6 nights at Mandalay Bay Las Vegas. $412 all in. Would be $1409 all in with the best website rate. Saved $997 over rack rate. -$30 Freeplay and $50 Resort Credit included in the deal. $80 value. -Roughly $160 in Freeplay from MGM by the time I get to town, $160 value. Total overhead saved = $1237. Not nearly an all timer but not bad for a holiday week trip. Would have been $700 more had I stayed at Fontainebleau as originally planned so a bit of frugality after the baller April trip.  1 month.

Got a nice little Resort Credit bump today, from an old job.  While I was with Kit/Ro in late '22 to early '23 I racked up some Marriot points while I was flirting with the move to Phoenix. Now that Marriot and MGM are bumping uglies, I was able to convert those (otherwise useless) points into MGM Rewards points. It turned into about $190 in credit, which, thanks old job! That means with what I already had earned, I will have over $230 available for the Xmas trip. Hello, Xmas dinner on Marriot, and one other dinner too. That's on top of the $50 I will have from the Aria booking package, and the potential $100 RC bump from getting to Gold on the trip, if I do. 3 nice meals (at least) inbound. We eatin'  good  for Xmas, y'all. The Xmas-freebies post coming up this year will be tidy.
