How I Lose.
Found an interesting little nook in the Mlife consumer site called "Tax Info". Basically it's a breakdown of how much you've won, or in my case lost, at all the various MGM casinos.
For all quarters of 2014, which is 2 full trips, I'm down a total of $1688 and change. Being that I did pretty well in the July trip slots-wise, that means I pretty much took a bath in March. Most of the casinos are pretty consistent, have lost between $2-300 at all the casinos I tend to spend much time at, MC, NYNY, Luxor. Lost a little at MGM but I'm rarely ever in there. Mirage was only $38 down despite my gambling heavily there the last two days I was in town in July, which makes sense as I did pretty well in there. Where I took a beating this year thus far is Bellagio. I've been trying to get noticed by their comp program there by spending money, and boy have I, to the tune of a little over $600 lost just in two trips.
They haven't sent me so much as a thank you postcard, the fuckers.
2013 was a bloodbath, relatively speaking. I made 4 full 3-day trips and lost over $2200 in them. I say relatively speaking because there were two caveats to that...A), I take more than that amount along with me on EVERY TRIP to lose, so in reality over the course of 4 trips I only lost between $5-600 per trip if you average it out. and B) I won $1600 on one hand of video Keno at Mandalay Bay.
That year I was losing all over the place. I lost a little bit at Aria and Bellagio (didn't get in either of them much), $200 at Mirage, $360 at Luxor, where I probably played the most, $525 at MC, $625 at Excalibur (really?) and $500 at MGM.
Where I really took it on the chin though last year was the place I always say I love to play, NYNY. They got me for $850. Fuck. The sole winner of all the casinos I played in '13 was, obviously, MB, and even then I put back almost half of what I won in the Keno hand. Up $850.
The moral of the story? None, I know full well that when I go to Vegas I'm going to come back with less than I went in with, it doesn't bother me and it's the price of doing business (pleasure) in Vegas. In the 11 trips I've taken I've never come back UP once and don't expect to. I like to go where I like to go, and getting ass-mangled on slots in one or more of those places probably won't change that.
It does give me an idea though that impressions had on site in the fog of liquor and blow don't always add up to reality. I love the atmosphere of NYNY and like hanging out in that casino, but it's unceremoniously raping me every time. Places I thought I was getting killed like Monte Carlo really aren't that bad. And if I want to win any money in Vegas on slots I should play at Mandalay Bay.
Which is where I'm staying in December.
