Post Mortem, 12/2016.
Another 4-trip year, another pretty standard trip to close it out. A fun one though.
Just going to go with highlights/lowlights here, as a day by day breakdown is sorta unnecessary.
Highlights:
-The Dorsey, the new bar/lounge at Venetian. I went there three times on their first three nights of business and had a good time each time. Mellow, good vibe, good drinks and a personable staff makes for a bar I will go out of my way to go to.
-The Cosmopolitan. Spent a LOT of time here, in Vesper, at the 3rd level Chandelier, at the Henry, a little bit at the sports book and then...STK. I dumped my reservation at Striphouse at PH to go here and had, hands down, the best steak I've ever eaten in my life. I literally was rolling my eyes back in my head after every bite. This place lives up to every bit of hype. I also earned enough (bad) gambling points to move up to Sterling on Cosmo's player's club, which hopefully will mean an offer or two this year.
-The view from my room at PH. The photo in my header is from my phone camera. It was stunning, nearly as good if not better than the view from Cosmo last year. Unreal.
-The ROOM from my room at PH. Clean, comfy, good cleaning services, newly remodeled and just generally a good place to crash after the 5 days in town. Not huge and amazing like the Terrace One Bedroom last year, but just...nice. Kinda plain decor-wise but the free fridge was a plus and it was easy to get in and out of with minimal elevator issues.
-Restaurant.com. I used 3 certificates worth $75 that I paid I think it was $7 for. Only one of the meals was really very good (Slice at MB Shoppes), but this helped me keep my gut full and alcohol level under control the first two days.
-My stamina. I hung in there pretty well for the full 5 days. I was ready to tap out on the morning of the 5th, but then rallied and had a respectable night.
Lowlights:
-Clique bar/lounge at Cosmo. Had some good experiences in here the last couple times I was in town but this time was very underwhelming. Indifferent staff, "I'm too cool to be serving you a drink" attitude, very off-putting. It was also dead in there, which may be a sign for them.
-Planet Hollywood/Miracle Mile. Aside from the room, just didn't hold my attention the whole time. The one exception was Shotspeare, which was a great, fun show on the first night, but I didn't spend any quality time in the resort proper and felt like it's just kinda past it's prime and maybe needing a remodel/rebrand. Don't think I'll be staying here again.
-The slots. I won NOTHING the entire time I was there. Most machines would accept a $100, suck it dry within 10 minutes and I would be off to the bar shaking my head. In every resort, every time. I don't know if I'm just the unluckiest dude on the planet or if Vegas has simply deadened every machine down to the point of impossibility. Just no fun at all.
-The women of Las Vegas. Can't really blame them for this, I guess. Oh wait, sure I can. Not so much as a nod of recognition from any female the entire trip. TBH there weren't many around, the town was pretty dead, but not even the hookers took note of me this time.
All in all a good trip, about as expected, didn't completely follow the plan but that's no biggy. Never made it up north to check out Lucky Dragon but there's always next time. I made use of cabs for any of the long trips up/down strip so my walking through crowds frustration levels were lower than usual. A good relaxing way to close out the year and looking forward to more of the same for next year.
