Post Mortem, 9/'19.
A good one! Very fun, and won a little money to boot.
I didn't keep track of the particulars as there's no real need to anymore on these non-plan trips, but a few general notes from a trip that has me wishing I was back in Vegas - though it was just yesterday that I came back.
The biggest positive (of many positives) was winning some damn money for once. I was rambling about on the last day of the trip, sort of aimlessly working my way north when I decided to stop into Mirage. I had been playing mainly VP during the trip, not really hitting much aside from a 4 OAK, mainly the idea was just to grind away and try to get to Mlife Gold.
I decided to sit at the VP bar next to the sports book. Grabbed a seat and started playing Triple Double bonus. I was losing faster than usual, couldn't really figure out why, was playing quarters and assumed it was max bet $1.25. Was down to my last $5 when I hit the above, 4 aces with the kicker. $2K. The biggest hand pay I've ever gotten in Vegas. Turned out max bet on quarters at that bar is actually $2.50. Had I realized I probably would have gone to $1.25 and only won $1K. All on a one ace hold. Serendipity, and or dumb luck. Probably the latter, but I'll take it.
The room was also a positive, a really nice junior suite at the Mandalay Bay. It was worth the extra $100. Big, lots of seating, huge bathroom, nice shower, comfy bed. View was not much, but for checking in at 12:30p I wasn't expecting much. It was quiet and housekeeping was Johnny on the spot with the cleanup every day. I really love that resort and wouldn't mind staying there every damn trip.
Another thing to the good was being there during the US Open. So much more fun sitting in the bars (as I do there) actually watching something I'm into. Saw a bunch of matches, and despite seeing Fed lose it was still a great thing to have going on, made it seem festive somehow. I'm going to have to try to be in town during the Open and Maybe the Australian next year too. French and Wimby too early to matter.
Other than that I mainly just hit all of my spots and drank a lot and ate pretty well. Had a couple really good cheeseburgers. Honestly the exception was the supposed splurge meal at Charlie Palmer. I had the filet Oscar and the cut was under-cooked and drowning in crab juices. Not much Bernaise at all. Only ate half of it. At least I used my points on it and it didn't cost me anything but a tip.
If there was a negative it's that I was consistently underslept the whole trip. The early wake up call Sunday and lack of taking any naps, along with never getting more than 6 hours of sleep a night had me pretty bleary eyed during the trip. I powered through most days but by the time 1:30a came around on Tuesday I was toast.
Overall though, for a 6th trip of the year it was something of a banger. Put back the exact same amount of cash that I pulled out before I left, and probably spent $1K on the card while in town so a cheap trip all things considered. I don't think I have made it to Gold after all, I'm 10K points short, so unless I have a big influx from the card spend I think I missed my chance for this year. Will have to try to get there next year, will probably have 5 trips including Xmas to do it so it's possible.
I don't have the slightest bit of Vegas fatigue after this crazy Vegas year and honestly am lamenting that I have near 4 months before I can go again. But, sadly, I DO have 4 months of rut ahead of me, so it's time to get back into the SF routine and try to muddle through until December 22nd. Probably not much to discuss until that's closing in but I'll try to check in a couple times before then.
Vodka wishes and filet mignon dreams.
