Reminders.
Some things I'm telling myself pre-trip. To make for a better trip. On the trip.
Relax
It'll be a weekend. There will be crowds. It will be warm. Remember to breathe and not forget that Vegas is there for the people, not one person. Try to be patient and understanding with stupid, slow or annoying tourists (I struggle with this massively). You're on vacation - slow down a little bit, take a breath and go with the flow.
Mix It Up
Don't fall into a rut. Though you may enjoy it greatly, don't revert into the trap of doing the Sam Ross run every damn night. Check out new places, take a risk, get out of your Vegas comfort zone a few times. Jump in a cab and run down to MB or up to Sahara, or something. You come to Vegas to get OUT of a rut, not to engage another one. Going to Virgin one day will help with this.
Let It Fly
This is your best financed trip in a while. You have plenty of spend and plenty of cushion to let the funds flow. Not saying you have to make it rain in Omnia at 3am or anything, but you can let loose with some nicer lunches and if you're on the fence about having another $18 cocktail or a $30 appetizer, let it happen. Buy a pair of shoes or some shit. You almost never come back from Vegas with anything, there's no law against it.
Listen To Your Body
You've got some health challenges, kid. You're turning 53 on this trip and your body has seen some shit. Sleep in if you can. Remember to eat and drink things other than vodka. Take a nap if you need it. Stop trying to overpower what your body is telling you by stuffing blow in your nose or doing 3 espresso martinis to wake up in the morning. Vegas time is precious, but so is, you know, life. Let's not end it doing lines and Red Bull vodkas in some hooker's motel room. Unless that seems like a good decision at the time.
Take It All In
This is it. This is what you save up for and obsess about the whole year...these 4 weeks a year in Vegas. Soak it up, take some pictures, stop to observe what's around you instead of always being in rush to get to the next bar. The bar will be there. Tilt your head up and look at the beauty around you. And yes, Vegas is beautiful, in its own artificial, plastic way. Enjoy it.
And with that, everybody, we will see you in a week.
