Hiatus.
3+ months til the next Vegas trip.
Seems prudent right now. The virus is charging back and despite being vaxxed it seems reasonable to take a few months off to hopefully let things cool off again. Nevada has the mask mandate back in effect indoors again, anyway. No capacity or vax card restrictions yet but it's not out of the realm of possibility. I'm not really worried for my own safety, but a restricted Vegas in any way is less Vegas. And I sure as shit don't want to play the "don't know if I can go" game again like last year.
It's fine. It allows me re-build the nice cash cushion I had coming out of the last job before taking 2 Vegas trips, and lets me re-build the hype for Vegas that has waned a bit in the (not all good crazy) crazy 3 trips thus far this year. Vegas should be a celebration, not a routine, and it was beginning to feel like that by the end of the last trip. I could afford a quick 4-night trip over Labor Day but the room and flight rates would be rape and I don't want to fight holiday weekend crowds anyway.
The comp sitch is set up well even with a hiatus, I'm at 60K Mlife points, only need 15K in 2 more trips to lock in Gold for another year. Tacking on the 1-2K monthly points from the Mlife CC along with those trips, I should have no trouble with it. Taking advantage of the decent comp rates I did book ahead as far as April, so that gives me the 3 next trips all locked in with great Mlife rates even if Gold does drop off.
So we'll take some time to re-connect with the City, build up some trust at the new job by not taking off all the time, and hopefully build up some more financial and wellbeing equity. Those 6-day Vegas benders do take a toll. Giving myself 4 months to get some homespun rhythm back can't be a bad thing. And as a byproduct not being in Vegas reduces my virus exposure leaps and bounds.
That said, likely taking a couple months off from this blog, unless something piques my Vegas interest. Probably start getting back into it in October as the clock starts to run out to Turkey Trip. See ya later.
