Labor. But Hopefully Not Too Much.

The Trip That Probably Shouldn't Have Been is days away.

Going to stop nay-saying it. I booked it, it's happening, and most of what could go wrong is either nothing I can control, or ironically completely under my control.

I can't control the flights and the airports. All I can do is get to the airports early and try to be patient with the inevitable holiday weekend crowds. Both SFO and McCarran seem to be pretty adept at pushing a huge mass of humanity through the gates, then it's just knock on wood that Frontier doesn't bungle the flights. I can't control the crowds on strip. They will be there en masse, they will be stupid, and they will be slow. I can't control the taxi lines or the full bars and restaurants. I can't control that it's going to be 100 degrees plus all three days I'm there.

What I can control is my attitude and reaction to the above. I can be patient. I can be prepared. I can strategize the most painless path around roadblocks. I can be the adult in the room, though the room is four miles of packed resorts. 10 years of making these trips gives me options. I can always find a bar to drink at and a resto to eat at, even when it might be option 4. Take it in stride. And I can stay out of the sun and in the locality of Mirage to cut down on the sweat and stress. If I don't get much further south than Caesars this trip (literally next door to Mirage) it's fine. That area is target rich and has plenty of options that I know and love.

I'll drink my drinks, I'll eat my food, I'll gamble my gambles. These things I can do in Vegas come hell or LDW. I'll have things to do. I'll have things to watch. And, for the 10th time saying it, it's better than spending the days either sitting at home watching Breaking Bad for the 12th time or sitting in R Bar commiserating with Will over sour Guinness.

I'm no Bob Marley. I know not every little thing's going to be alright on this trip, but I'm primed to roll with it and suck as much Vegas out of the weekend as I can, and man can I suck.
