Low Roller Style (Nothing Like Big Willy Style).
I've touched on it in previous posts, but I'm a pretty, erm, basic guy when it comes to how I present myself in the world. I try very hard not to put on airs, and often find people who are wearing designer clothes and driving Porsches to be pretty high up on the douche scale. It's just a world that I have never found myself in, and if I did, would feel pretty uncomfortable in.
I'm not a particularly sociable guy. I try to avoid "gatherings" whenever possible, unless I'm completely comfortable with the situation and the with the people who will be attending. I like going into bars but tend to bail out when they become very busy and crowded. I greatly prefer being one of just a few people in the bar, where you're able to have a conversation with someone and not be drowned out by bad karaoke or someone screaming in your ear after one too many Fireballs. I do a lot of daytime drinking for this reason.
Fashion-wise, I have no taste beyond jeans (Levi's, usually) and simple, block color shirts or sweaters. Following fashion just seems like a tremendous, shallow waste of time to me.
This translates to Vegas. I did buy a new pair of jeans and a couple warm shirts for this trip, but I needed new jeans and the shirts are b/c it's going to be in the fucking 30's at night when I'm there. This is why I have not yet and have no plans to do the "club" scene in Vegas. A), I'm 44 fucking years old, B) I don't OWN clothes that would get me into the door at clubs there, and C), I'm 44 fucking years old.
This does have it's advantages. I am able to take 4 days worth of clothes with me in one carry-on sized backpack. This time I'm going with the usual shorts/socks/t-shirts (enough for 2 changes per day), a couple nice sweat shirts, a sweater, and I'm taking a dress shirt just in case I somehow end up someplace dressier (it IS Vegas, after all). 1 pair of jeans. A little toiletry bag, my iPad for tunes/bad hotel WiFi, and hotel/flight info printouts. That's it.
I suppose I could try to come across as a baller while there, dress to the nines and put on some bullshit story about being a tech exec or something, but I couldn't respect myself if I did that. If I'm going to get laid, I'm going to do it honestly.
I tend to gravitate while there to lobby bars, low-key pubs or sports bars. I wandered into a more upscale bar at Aria once and ordered a $13 cocktail...I was just in jeans/sweatshirt and got treated like a leper. It's like bartenders there can smell the poor guy. So you know what? I haven't been to Aria since, and probably won't in the future.
If you don't want my poor-ass business, you won't get it.
