Job.
Whelp, I am now officially jobby.
In the past week I was made a job offer and went through all the paperwork and background check stuff to be finally cleared today to start Monday after next.
I'm jazzed, this was the job I targeted since literally day one of my job hunt, I think it was resume one that I sent out, in reality. It was a solid 2 months of talking to recruiters and managers back and forth so I'm glad it all worked out, I would have been pissed if it hadn't.
I will be working for Thermo Fisher Scientific as a remote Lead Site Specialist running a small team of people at the brand new Merck Pharmaceuticals plant in South City. Basically, as I understand it, it's an inventory and supply management job, making sure all the scientists and research folks have all the tools and equipment they need to do what they do. I've been told it's about a 50-50 desk-to-site ratio, so should be on my feet a bit which is good. I've done enough damn sitting the last 4 months.
Compensation is slightly more than what I was making with GL, banker's hours M-F and the company has a good set of benefits that start more or less from day one. I can get into a HMO or PPO there if I want, I will need to do cost comparison to what I already have with HSF. Only issue with staying with HSF is I won't be covered if something happens to me in SSF. Obviously if I get hurt on site that's worker's comp but there's always the commute that takes me out of the City. I'll have to look at it. PTO is good with accrued 15 days and I think something like 10-11 holidays off during the year. Hopefully that will include some time off around Xmas again so I can keep the Holiday Vegas trip streak going. Also was able to lock down the dates for my trip in April.
Speaking of Vegas, of course I will be taking a quick celebratory trip next week (I don't start until the 18th). See next post.
So, cool. This whole process that started in October has worked out more of less how I planned it. In a perfect world I would have gotten this job on the day my UI benefits ran out, but taking it to that extreme would have led to a very stressful March/April. In the end I end up with a stable company in a booming industry and a hopefully long term, growth position. Exactly what I was looking for and the antithesis of Got Light.
Now, one week and two weekends to relax and enjoy the last bit of freedom before becoming a wage slave again.
