The Plan, September '22.
How's about a good old fashioned plan post?
Haven't done one of these in a while because, well, I haven't planned very fucking much on the last several Vegas trips. It'll be good this time to have a happening on a few days. So let's block it out day by day:
Saturday: Assuming all goes well with the flight I should be wheels down at Harry Reid at around 10a. I'll be doing mobile check in with Aria so possible I can taxi over and get right into the room, but more likely will have to drop the bag at the bell desk and go have a bevvie and maybe a snack somewhere before getting upstairs. Hopefully can be installed by around 1p though, then can start the trip in earnest.
No plans on day one, so I'll likely just wander most of the day. I'll have a full day's save to blow so surely some gambles will happen at the many VP machines in Aria. Maybe hit Vesper at Cosmo since I'll be next door. Probably will go up to V/P in the afternoon to say hi to Evan and the guys at the (former) Sam Ross lounge crawl. After that maybe some dinner and more VP, and will not be gutted to end the night somewhat early as it will have been a long day since the early wake up to get to SFO.
Sunday: It's football season day 1 and the Niners play at 10a, so assuming I can drag my ass out of bed by then I might try to find a quiet bar to sit in and watch some of that. Sportsbooks will probably be over run. US Open final at 1P too if there's anyone playing I care about. Then maybe after a little gambling I can grab a lunch somewhere, maybe Javier's in Aria. Going to really try to max out on eating and spending on the MGM CC and dinging the Gold card. Plenty of food options at Aria and Bellagio on this trip.
After lunch, again it's a no-plan day, so there will be, um, no plan. Wandering, drinking, MGM gambling, maybe even a nap if it's needed. Being center strip it will be great to have the easy option to crash out when I'm tired out. Evening will probably be getting liquored up in some lounge somewhere, then just see where we end up. Can go deep on this night if I'm up to it.
Monday: Sleeping in is fine, nothing going on this 3rd day of the trip til later. Likely gambles/lunch/dranks to start the day, maybe hit Salt & Ivy for brekkie/lunch depending on when I get down there. Then will be happy to get a nap and freshen up before heading down to Mandalay Bay for the MJ ONE show at 7p. Might do Skyfall for pre-show drinkies unless they have a buyout. I'll probably be out of the show by 8:30p or so, then I'm a free agent, Undoubtedly will want to do dinner somewhere, maybe in the MB complex then I'll see what tickles my fancy for the rest of the evening. Could be another late one.
Tuesday: Probably getting a little punchy by this point so an alarm will not be part of the do list this morning. Sleeping in will be just fine. Out of the room *whenever* for the early happy hour. Drinks, gambling and food on the menu, as usual. Maybe try to get into Sadelle's at Bellagio for brunch this day? Dunno. May hit Fuel this day to see the guys, if I already haven't on the trip. Or if at Bellagio for lunch can go to the overpriced but nice piano lounge in there for my specialty espresso cocktail.
By around 3 I'll likely head back up to the room for a nap/shower to get ready to head over to Virgin for the Interpol show. Show starts at 7p but there are two opening bands I don't care about so I probably won't even show up til 8p or so, might grab drinks at Double Down before the show as it's just a couple blocks away. Then after the show I am Cowboy. I'll probably be something like sober after so head back to the strip and do the do. Hitting the pillow late again a distinct possibility.
Wednesday: A semi-no plan day and a cool down day. definitely a late wake up and no rush to get into the drinking. Going to try to stick to mainly beer, hydrate and lay off the shots, at least during the day shift. Then, again after a possible nap and refresh, it's up to Jean George steakhouse at 5:45 for the splurge meal of the trip. May have enough comps built up by this point to get a free steak but if not, it's on the MGM CC and build up the sweet 3X points.
After the early dinner I should have some energy to burn and can start dipping into the Belvedere bottle a little bit in the evening. Possibly down to RW for a while, or Wynn, or V/P to see the guys again. I want to gamble exclusively at MGM resorts but that doesn't mean I'm tied to them physically for the whole trip. Tie one on somewhere or somewheres then probably a cab back to Aria for some late gambling and maybe a slice at Moneyline before bed. Getting some late night carbs into the body will hopefully help as I'm getting into the dog days of the trip.
Thursday: NIN day. It's finally here. I'll be seeing my favorite live band again right across the street from Aria at Zappos at PH. But first, the day shift - it's the last day of the trip and I may well be pretty petered out so no rush to get out of bed. A healthy lunch and some light-ish drinking my be in order but this will definitely be the day I'll want to pace myself and be 100% for the show. A nap very much in order.
Then at around 7P, it's put on the NIN t-shirt, strap on a couple shots, maybe get a light snack and get ready to be blown away by Trent and company for the 3rd time in Vegas. Can't wait, the highlight of the trip on it's last night. Knowing this band it'll likely be 11:30-ish before I'm stripside again, and assuming I'm as pumped as I expect to be the gloves will come off. It's the last night of the trip, I don't have to wake up early and There Will Be Blood. Will be pushing the sad old body to the limits and go out with a bang. DEEP night (morning?), most likely.
Friday: Unless I've decided to tack on a day it's up around 10:30a, foggily pack the bag, shower, taxi to the airport and get out of Dodge by 1p. If all goes well I'm back in the hobbit hole by 3p and probably straight to bed to recover from the debacle of the last 5 days.
Can't think of a better way to spend a week in September. Lets do this.
