Post Mortem, April 2026

Back to the hobbit hole from AprilVegas. High/lowlights.

Flights:

The in was fine, on time despite a bit of a tarmac hold and got me on the ground a little after 1p. The out was a shitshow. Fucking incoming landing delays kept pushing the flight back time and again. Didn't finally get off the ground, for a 1:30p flight, until after 5:30p. Nightmare. I hate waiting for anything, even more so waiting in a packed airport on flyout day when I'm tired and hung over. Not United's fault, but just bad.

Rooms/Resort:

MGM Grand, the Emerald suite was a banger all around. Huge room, 3 bathrooms, giant TV's, bar, just amazing. Best room I've ever had in Vegas, not close. No view really but didn't care. Totally quiet and no housekeeping issues. Paying a grand was worth it in this case. Won't do it on every trip but it made it a better one. The Grand itself was fine, busy for the WWE as expected. Didn't really affect me much, usually was just there for the start and end of the day. Was a good homebase.

Vegas:

Absolute shitshow for wrestling. Just tried to avoid it as much as possible by heading north. Sat/Sun both just crazy with wrestling fans walking around in cargo shorts, Austin 3:16 shirts and championship bests. Yes, belts. Dork city. Otherwise, it was fine. Weather was good, never above about 85 and it was actually a bit chilly on the Friday so no worries there. Avoided most of the choke points so never got claustrophobic.

Drinking/Food:

I found a dish at Jaleo on the Thursday night and went back there for dinner two other nights to have it. Blew off the reservations I had. Conos de Sobresada. Unreal. Nothing else really memorable for food, didn't eat enough as usual but managed to stay ahead of the spinnies. Drinking was constant and excessive, but I never felt out of control. Mostly at my usual spots, didn't range around much. Probably overdid it a couple nights but was never wobbly.

Health:

Not bad at all. I never got in a mood really during the trip and got enough sleep to never even have to take a nap while there. I missed a few pill doses but again felt OK through the trip. Hopped off the liraglutide on the second day just to not have to have the nausea and gas. Overall a good body trip.

Gambling:

Not bad, actually. For once I hit a hand pay on day 1 at Fontainebleau, which really helped, and then hit a few little things to keep from total disaster until I banged in another $2K on VP about an hour before going to bed on the last night at the Grand. So of the $5500 cash I took, I brought back $3K on over $33K coin in at FB and MGM. I paid cash for some non-gambling stuff so was only down about $800 gambling. The whole bring back will go straight into the fund for the summer trip, which is now a go. The CC took a hit, especially with the upgraded room, but I should be able to knock it down by end of May. That's a lot of good coin-in too for possible offer upgrades at FB and MGM.

So, in all, that's a solid trip. Really enjoyed myself and had a good, mostly relaxing 5 days. Looking forward to the next, jazzed about Vegas right now.
