The Plan, My 50th Fucking Birthday Trip.

Image
Whelp, 3 months, 3 Vegas trips. I went from coming back from the December trip not knowing if there was going to BE a trip in 2019 to now I'm at least going to be doing 4 and maybe more. Could be a record year if I can squeeze one more trip in in the summer somewhere. That may depend on the situation at the new job but I imagine it could be a thing. So! The plan for this trip, and there is a (small) plan. 4 nights, 3 full days and a bitch of an early morning fly out day (as of now) but eh, it is what it are. This is, as I've made clear ad nauseum, the 50th birthday trip, so there will be some serious lack of moderation going on. I will be fooding, drunking, and ass-grabbing to excess for every waking moment I'm there. STEP 1: Foodz. I will be having at least 2 great steaks while in town. On the 24th, the day before the birthday, I will be at Delmonico in Venetian. Their filet knocked my socks clean off on the February trip and I can think of no better pre-show mea...

Hey so, yeah, I'm like, going to Vegas or something, tomorrow. The money will be in a good place, I'll have $750 for the first, short night (if all goes well will be out to the strip by 9p), then $900 for the two full days. Should be more than enough. I don't plan to do any more than the now customary VP in terms of gambling, so those dailies will be healthy, and will leave my savings when I get back still relatively so. In terms of savings on this trip (aside from the insane room rate and flight cost) I did cash in a myVegas reward for a lunch buffet at Mandalay Bay, which I may or may not use, and still have the old venerable certs from Restaurant.com for Carlos & Charlie's and Senor Frog's should I feel the need to be frugal during the trip. May hit Delmonico again at some point during the trip for the splurge meal, still jonesing after the filet I had last month. Had to wrangle a bit over the phone with Park MGM the last 2 days (they were trying to ...

March Quickie.

Off to the Veganatrix for a quickie this coming week. As detailed in the last post, I secured jobitude, so to reward myself for that it's off to the Park MGM for a quick 3-nighter. Got a great rate, no comped nights but all in with resort fees just a little over $230 for the three nights, then got an even greater deal on the flight by going out of OAK with Spirit Airlines. Total bare bones airline, fees for everything including breathing but $107 for a non-stop round trip? Insane. Since I'll just be in town for the 2 full days I can just take my Timbuk2 and stow it under the seat, no bag fees. I'll have to take BART to get to the airport but shouldn't be any big deal. Park MGM, home of the paper thin walls, but eh, for just the 3 nights it'll be tolerable, hopefully. Worst case I can run white noise on my phone or call for a fan or something if next door peeps are being unbearable. Cant beat the rate for newly renovated rooms in a newly renovated (and quite n...

Job.

Whelp, I am now officially jobby. In the past week I was made a job offer and went through all the paperwork and background check stuff to be finally cleared today to start Monday after next. I'm jazzed, this was the job I targeted since literally day one of my job hunt, I think it was resume one that I sent out, in reality. It was a solid 2 months of talking to recruiters and managers back and forth so I'm glad it all worked out, I would have been pissed if it hadn't. I will be working for Thermo Fisher Scientific as a remote Lead Site Specialist running a small team of people at the brand new Merck Pharmaceuticals plant in South City. Basically, as I understand it, it's an inventory and supply management job, making sure all the scientists and research folks have all the tools and equipment they need to do what they do. I've been told it's about a 50-50 desk-to-site ratio, so should be on my feet a bit which is good. I've done enough damn sitting ...

Good shorty trip. No drama. Flight in was sorta fucked, my supposed 9a flight was cancelled the night before by Alaska (3rd trip in a row at least one of my flights has been cancelled by them) and then once the 11:30a flight did board (late) we had a ground hold for almost an hour before we got in the air. Didn't end up getting to Vegas until after 2p. In Alaska's defense it WAS shitty weather all day but it's frustrating to lose Vegas time on such a short trip. Finally got into town, in a cab and to Bally's for painless check-in then out to the strip by 3p. Took a cab straight over to V/P and stopped into the Dorsey for a couple, then on to both Electra and Rosina. Always good to see Evan, Daniel, Armando and the crew. Hadn't eaten anything all day and was getting drunkish so made my way over to Joe's Stone Crab in the Forum Shops and had a very good filet. On most trips it would have been the highlight meal but another steak later in the trip would beat...

The Plan, 2/'19.

Shortest plan post ever. No plan. But seriously folks! No really I have no pre-conceived notions around this trip. It was totally impromptu and unplanned and it'll be a glorified long weekend (during the week), so I'm just going to wing it. There are no shows or concerts in town, and no sporting events to speak of, the Knights are home on Thursday night so that might be a factor but only in the avoidance of T-Mobile. Assuming an on-time flight (no guarantee as apparently a big storm is coming in here on my fly-out morning) I'll be on the ground around 11a ( UPDATE : nope, Alaska as always cancelled my flight, best case I get in at 1p now. Fuck.), so catching a cab to center strip I'll be there around 11:30a. Maybe catch a drink somewhere to get in the groove then hit up Bally's around noon to see if I can check in or failing that at least bell desk the bag and mosey around center strip until check in time. Some food may be in order. One of the R.com certs m...
