A Really, Galactically, Monstrously Bad Idea (That I'm Doing Anyway).
Oh boy.
A blog post from one of the Vegas news blogs I follow, Vegas Chatter, has me thinking about doing something very dumb and possibly fatal. They have a semi-tongue in cheek post about a "Vegas bucket list" of things to do in town. One thing on the list grabbed my attention:
"Walk the entire strip from Mandalay Bay to Stratosphere, having a drink or shot in every casino."
Yep.
Challenge accepted.
I'm blowing off my former plan to go downtown on the last day of the trip, Monday, and will be attempting this instead. I'm going to flip the script on the direction, though; I will travel up to Strat first and work my way down, probably riding the monorail to get up there. There are only about 10 resorts on the left side of the strip coming down (hardly sporting) so I will work down the right side of the strip instead. This is a challenge. I'm skipping anything that's not a Resort/Casino, and anything not ON the strip. The order will be:
-Stratosphere
-SLS
-LONG WALK THROUGH A WASTELAND
-Encore
-Wynn
-Palazzo
-Venetian
-Casino Royale (ugh, does this place even HAVE a bar?)
-Harrah's
-The Linq
-Flamingo
-The Cromwell
-Paris
-Planet Hollywood (I may be wondering what planet I'm on by this point)
-RETAIL WASTELAND
-MGM Grand
-Tropicana
Then crossing the street and:
-Excalibur
-Luxor
-Then finally Mandalay fucking Bay.
That's over 4 miles walking (in a line, not counting all the walking inside the resorts); if you figure about 3/4 of a mile covered per hour, about 6 hours, and 18 shots. 3 shots an hour. All in what is projected to be 103 degree heat.
Oof.
It does sound like a fun adventure, though. Certainly a way to build a little excitement for what is usually the least fun day of the trip (the last day), and it definitely gets me out of the usual left side of the strip rut I can get in. Then If I finish up at Mandalay I'm just a quick tram ride and walk away from being able to crash out in my room for a few hours before heading out for the last night festivities.
Should meet a lot of people and hopefully won't, you know, die.
UPDATE:
Didn't do it. Wasn't up to it Monday.
Still a good (bad?) idea though, will keep it in the pocket for a future trip.
