Post Mortem, April '18.
Well that was...a Vegas trip.
Not going to do a blow by bow on this one because there really wasn't much to distinguish this one from previous trips. Just going to make a few points:
The Flights:
Fine I guess. It was a royal pain in the ass to have the Long Beach connectors on both ends of the trip but the flights themselves were all on time-ish and nothing bad happened on any of them. It's probably the last time I'll fly JetBlue but they almost redeemed themselves for the colossal fuck up from last year. The dropping the car at Hotel Focus by the airport thing worked OK.
The Rooms:
Tropicana for one night was fine, got upgraded to the Paradise Tower. It's run down and the 50's Cuba theme to the rooms is tired but for one night it was OK. Wouldn't want to stay there for any length of time unless it was fully comped. Spent zero time in the resort. Cosmo was the City Room as expected, view of the side of Aria and the Chelsea pool below. It was fine, they are showing their age a bit but certainly roomy and comfortable enough for a single guy. Nice bathroom with a big see-through shower. Nothing like the Terrace room I had a couple years ago but still one of the better standard Vegas rooms I've had.
The Gambling:
Meh. won a hundy here, lost a hundy there, I didn't keep track of it but I probably came out something like even. I didn't gamble much again as is my trend lately, I probably only put a grand coin-in the whole trip. Not enough to get on anyone's comp radar again for sure. Came back with $1100 of $3900 so OK there I guess.
The Time Spent:
Really just a procession of going from bar to bar drinking too much and sitting basically alone watching sports. Didn't eat as much as I said I would, which resulted in me getting pretty plowed most of the days. Hit most of my usual spots and added a couple, like Carnevino in Palazzo where I had a heavenly pasta Bolognese, but mixed that in with a couple trips for food to Twin Peaks which is whatever-tier at best. I finally hit the wall on the 5th night, my birthday, and passed out in the room at about 6p. Woke up at 10:30 or so but in no way was I able to get it back going again so I just snuck down to the Henry to get food and went back up to watch CNN for an hour before sleeping (badly) the rest of the night. Nothing really overly fun or interesting happened TBH.
Freebies:
myVegas was a wash as I was able to use the $35 food coupon at Nine Fine but the damn lines were too long at Excalibur to use the steakhouse one. It's just completely clear that I'm not going to be able to use any rewards at Lux or Ex anymore (where there are tons of mV usage) until mV cleans up the ridiculous redemption process for rewards. Right now it's just broken. Used one R.com reward at Slice which was good as always.
The Aftermath and Lessons Learned:
Slept terribly the first night back, was no doubt full-on alcohol poisoned after all the damn Belvedere shots from 4 full days of drinking. Sweated buckets and was up and down all night. Took the Friday off that I was supposed to be back to work (was probably always doing that anyway). Lessons learned? On the longer, 5 day trips I will need to do a "cool down" day somewhere in the middle. Ease off on the drinking, stick to just beer and eat a ton that day to allow my body to keep up. As stated before I don't do 5-day benders when I'm not in Vegas so there's no expectation I can do them there without consequences. Also probably do need some kind of event or two to focus me on a couple days of longer trips so I'm not just bar hopping the entire time.
Don't Get Me Wrong:
It was still a great time! The weather was perfect, the sun was shining, the crowds weren't too bad and there's still nothing better in my world than waking up with a hangover in Vegas knowing you're going to strap it on and seek out the next hangover in one of the funnest cities on the planet. Nothing bad happened and it was well worth the time/cash spent.
All in all...a Vegas trip. Now next up in 45 days is the shorty NIN trip in June then ramping up to the 5-day'er again in August. The cycle continues...
