Post-Mortem 6/19.

A trip. A palpable trip.

Flight delayed 45 minutes on the ground and another half hour on the tarmac, got in an hour late as a result. Fucking Alaska again. Hopped in a cab and over to Luxor to check in, painless, used the kiosk and up to the room in no time. Same room as last time, nothing luxurious but clean and simple and got the job done. Some waiting for elevators as it was a weekend but all in all a fine place to spend 4 nights.

So out to the strip by 8p, over to Park by cab and wandered over to Rock & Reilly. This has been one of my go-to's for the past year or so of trips but I think I'm done with it. All the personable bartenders have left and despite my going in there all the time (often in one of their t-shirts) I don't get so much as a nod from the bar manager. Over it, plenty of places to drink in Vegas. Jumped in another cab at PH and headed to Fuel, one of the bars I still love. Always a great vibe, high energy and a bar staff that knows and appreciates you if you come back in.

Had a couple more at BAR next to fuel, another cool bartender and then over to Cromwell for a bit to watch the idiots line up to go up to Drai's. Always comedy. Starting to get a little blasted and tired from the long day, so decided to head back to home base. Dropped in at Ri Ra to watch a decent Irish band and fight off a horny, unattractive, chubby girl at the bar. Was feeling pretty spent at this point so walked back over to Luxor and to bed, probably around midnight.

Friday, good sleep, wandered around aimlessly in Mandaly looking for someplace to have lunch, finally gave up and headed north, finally landed at the Park MGM playing VP at the center bar and hit a 4 OAK to cash out an extra hundy. This would be a good VP trip as it turned out. The made my way into Aria still looking for food, finally ended up at Jaleo again at Cosmo for the fantastic 3-course lunch in there. A salad, and app and a skirt steak, all amazing. Becoming one of my faves in town for foodz.

After a quick drink at 3rd floor Chandelier, lit out to cab over to Bally's for Fuel bar again, then another cab to V/P for Dorsey and Electra, catching up with some of the tenders I've known in there for years. Was feeling really good at that point. Decided to hit Delmonico for the 2nd steak of the day, the always tasty filet. Not the greatest cut of meat this time, a bit gristly but still tasted great. Wanted to be in position somewhere to watch the Dubs play, so set up at Rock House. I'm kinda also over this place, service has gone down and there's not even much eye candy to warrant the bad attitudes. Not to mention the Dubs lost.

Got a great massage from one of the kiosk places in Palazzo, then headed into Royal Britannia pub. Fine, personable enough bartender so stuck there a while getting pretty toasted. I guess I ended up getting down to the Park again (don't remember how) and hit another 4 OAK. Back to RnR again, for some reason, then got some chicken strips at Twin Peaks and headed back to the room.

Saturday, decent sleep, headed over to NYNY with the intention of cashing out my $50 drink credit but the damn Mlife line was too long so I sat at a couple machines and won $300 instead. Was up almost a full day's save at this point. Needed lunch, so across the Boulevard to TAP for some pretty horrid chicken strips. Only ate about a quarter of them. Went into Whiskey Down and played a little VP, made it to Mlife Pearl, then cabbed it down to Venetian again. Wandered aimlessly for a while, finally settled on going into Sushi Samba since I was still hungry after the bad strips. Decent sushi and a glass of sake.

Went into Royal Brit again, watched some cliff diving, then did the Dorsey/Electra thing again. Wandered south a bit and hit Carnival Court outside Harrah's OMG the humanity in this place. Fun retro band playing though and It was a blast just to people watch there. Went into Book in the Linq to play some VP then into Bally's to watch a hot chick lounge band for a bit, was getting worked a bit by what I think must have been a hooker but she took off with the bartender and never came back so who knows. Still fun.

Was getting well and truly toasted by this point, made my way down to the Sin City brewing outside or PH and had a couple more, and frankly it gets foggy after that. I know I ended up playing more VP at Luxor and getting up to bed late.

Sunday, not great sleep, maybe 6 hours. Made my way out around 11:30, finally cashed in the $50 bar tab at NYNY and played VP while drinking, hit 4 4's with the ace kicker and cashed out a couple hundred. Wanted to go see the same retro band at Carnival Court but couldn't find a seat anywhere so went into the new strip patio bar at Linq, Rematch. Had another great massage, was feeling pretty nice. Went into Yard House for their good chickie tenders (my fave Vegas meal!) and over the Cosmo for 3rd floor Chandy again.

Started to run out of gas now. 3 days and not good sleep the night before catching up. I got what is supposed to be an amazing egg sandwich at Eggslut (always a line) and headed back to the room to try to rally. The sandwich was pretty awful, and while throwing said bad sandwich outside the room so I wouldn't smell it - I locked my self out of the room. Door just closed shut right behind me. Luckily a service phone by the elevators and a quick security room visit kept it from being more than a minor nuisance.

Laid down but sort of instinctively knew I wasn't going to get a nap, so I just took a fresh shower and tried to rally for the evening. Headed back over to Ri Ra, wandered a bit looking for food and settled on House of Blues, had a pretty awful shrimp thing but ate enough of it to fill the stomach. Went back up to the room AGAIN thinking I might be done, but got bored and came down to try one more rally. Glad I did, hit another 4 2's with the kicker and another little JP at Mandalay to cash in around $350. After that though I just couldn't get anything going, I didn't want to drink anymore so I hit the (very meh) deli in Luxor and finally hit the rack early at around 10p.

Fitful sleep but up in time to make the airport in plenty of time, flight out was on time luckily and I was home in the hobbit hole by 2p. Came back to put $1100 back in the bank so a good result there. Overall a fairly standard trip and yet another bummer last day. I may have to re-think what I want to get out of the day before fly-out day - it hasn't been working in recent trips. Either need to plan more or plan less or plan to sleep way the hell in that morning so I don't crash the 2nd half of the day. Other than that though a pretty good trip and I'm ready to re-light the candle in a couple weeks.

No stopping the Vegas train in 2019.
