The Rutles.
Rut.
But time is flowing by. Keep knocking back the weeks and closing in. Less than 2 months now to Xmas Vegas, 1 month to Turkey Vegas. Work going OK, was dicey for a bit and actually started looking at Indeed again, but things have settled and I think I'm OK short term, short term being the next 6 months or so.
It's tough being an onsite contractor, you work every day at your client's site but don't get your paycheck from them. Visibility is limited, which can be a blessing and a curse. If things are going great you're left alone and it's a piece of cake. The first sign of trouble and it's all your fault, even when it isn't. Navigating that can be tough. But I think things have evened out to give me some breathing room for the next few months at least.
Even after over 1 1/2 years I'm still not convinced this is the end game of my career, but I don't have the luxury of $20K in a 401k to be self-righteous and walk away like last job. We'll sort it out in the new year. Now's not the time to be job hunting. I'd be OK if anything happened for a couple months if this fell apart, but that's not the kind of cushion that lets you sleep at night.
Assuming I'm a long-termer with this company, I have decided to take advantage or the health care benes and go back under a PPO umbrella again. Healthy SF served me well for the last damn near decade, but if I get any kind of raise next year I think I'm going to be priced out of it by making too much money, I just barely squeezed under the cap on my last renewal. I'm also paying the max possible of $450/quarter to be in it, and when I worked out the cost difference it's not that much more to just get real insurance. That way I'm covered when I leave the City (which happens every work day) and when I travel, which has never been the case w/HSF and has always been dangerous. Another sign of finally giving up and joining the adulthood, I guess. Also saves me having to pay the $450 HSF fee in December that's going to be due.
Loving the new car, though as predicted I don't drive it much, pretty much just to/from work. Only 530 miles on the clock in a month of driving. My 10K/year miles limit will not be threatened. It's strange driving a modern car with all the amenities, Bluetooth, SiriusXM, all the driver assist stuff, it's pretty wild. Easily the best ride I've owned in my driving life. It'll be a good partner for the next 3 years.
Turkey Vegas is happening, A pennies from heaven situation and a quickie but man it makes what was going to be a 3+ month trip gap a hell of a lot easier.
Still locked into the great Xmas deals at Cosmo and Bellagio. PTO for the trip was approved so as always now it's just whiling away the time until I can be back there, and hoping COVID stays under control enough to preclude another lockdown.
I don't think that will be a threat, especially now that bars are back open and shows are starting to get going again, in a limited fashion. Resorts seemed to have proven that they can stay open and not be a causer of outbreaks. To reverse all that again and have another lockdown, I think the NV Governor would have to have bullet-proof vests on 24/7 to survive the backlash. I just need everything to stay status quo, such as it is now, until after I come back from the Xmas trip. Let me have one normal trip this year Vegas, please. I'm owed it.
