What's Going On, April 2022.
SupPLANting the normal "plan" post this time and maybe going forward. I just don't DO much planning on trips anymore, so those posts in the past couple years have become a bore. Going with a different format this time.
Why am I going?
It's my birthday month, bitch. No other reason, aside from it's been 3 months since my last go, and that was a shorty. I'm unable (or unwilling) to go on my actual birthday week, since the NAB show is that week and it's the week before the NFL draft. I'm getting in and out before the crazy hits. Besides, it would have been a lot more expensive for rooms to go over my actual b-day.
Where am I staying?
I'll be at the lovely and talented Mandalay Bay again this time, 3rd time at the complex in the last 4 trips; it's becoming a bit of a home base. Frankly IMO it's just about the best property that is in the MGM stable; Bellagio is always overpriced, Aria/Vdara is in desperate need of a room remodel and I'm too snobby to stay at any of the others, at least for a full week. The location is far from ideal, but I've taken to walking less and less on trips and the cab rides aren't that bad, really, unless I'm going all the way up to the north strip. I love the relaxed vibe of the place, it's got great food/bev options and the fact that I can stay for a week and only get charged $300 for the privilege doesn't hurt either.
Any shows or concerts?
Not this time, I don't think. I'll be shooting that particular wad in spades on the September trip, this one is just vacation time. I have seen just about every show I want to see in Vegas. I've always wanted to see the MJ 1 show but I just can't swallow $120 for a nosebleed seat. Maybe if I win something while there I'll shell out for it day of. Might drunkenly stumble into Opium again one night if I feel like it, otherwise no shows this time.
Things that are happening?
Baseball. My Giants are playing every day I'm in town. They're on an east coast road trip so the times are great, will be able to catch a lot of 4pm games. The NBA playoffs start the day I come in, too, so my Dubs will be in action at least two if not three nights. Always good to have something on in the bars I'm actually interested in watching. No F1 that week, Masters will be over and ATP is on the Euro clay swing so won't be able to see much if any of that but at least there's US stuff going on.
Reservations?
Doing Lupo at MB on Sunday if I feel like it, never been but nice to do something different. Then Tuesday I'm back at Rivea for the amazing bison steak I had there on the last trip. Every other meal is at the whims of the gods.
Anything else?
Not really. This is just a pure, standard vacation trip. Relax, drink, eat, and hopefully gamble well the whole time with no restrictions on most of it. All in the best weather of the year if the normal pattern prevails. Sounds like a winner.
