Maybe, Baby.

Employment sitch heating up.

I am definitely out of the current job. Final decision made today. Two weeks retroactive to yesterday. Completely fine with this, I am done and it can't be saved at this point even if I wanted to, which I so don't. In the end it was two good years of resume filling experience, Merck will always be a good reference to have. No regrets.

On the what's next side of things, I have now had two good video interviews with a local SF company who seem high on me, with another one Thursday with the company COO. Feeling pretty confident about it and it seems like something that could take off in the future, might be very lucrative to be on the ground floor of that as a possible career-ender. It's that kind of company with that kind of idea. These things are never guaranteed but I'd be in the first 20 employees if it does take off.

I would normally be a little hesitant to jump at the first thing offered (if it is) when I have a time/money cushion and could afford some time off, but this would be a tough opportunity to pass up. It's going to pay as much or more than now and it's about 2 miles away. Might not even need the car anymore.

The by-product of the situation is if I take that job and start toward the end of the month, that gives me at least a one week gap between employment. And what could be done in a week between jobs?

Do you even know anything about this blog?

I have, of course, booked a room in Vegas for 4 nights of that gap week. IF it happens, it would be MGM Grand in a Stay Well King. The flight I'm too gun shy to book yet but there's a $37 (!) fare on Frontier for the 16th-20th with good fly times that I'm itching to book if I get the job. Worst case would be about $100 on another carrier but it'd be great to have about a $250 all-in overhead for the trip if it happens.

Probably would try to be semi-frugal, maybe not a full $1K a day like last trip, I wouldn't want to give away all the hand pay from April but with the $8K I'll have in the bank after bills and the 401k dissolving after I leave TFS, I should still have a healthy egg left post-trip.

Of course, no $$ spent until I do indeed get the jobby. If I don't, I go on spendthrift mode until one is locked in and I can worry about Vegas after that.

So yeah, MAYbe a quickie in May.

UPDATE 1: Had a good call with the COO last week, 3rd interview, and have a vid call scheduled for Wednesday at which I will likely get an offer for the position. I see no reason why the COO would Google Meet me just to tell me thanks no thanks. Quickie Vegas next week definitely in play. Updating again after call Wed.

UPDATE 2: Offer has been offered...sorta. Reliant upon references calls and a background check. So a wrench could possibly still be thrown. I had to cancel the Grand reservation as I'm up against the cancellation date, but once the offer is formally tendered and signed I can rebook over the next few days. It would be last minute but I could still get good rates locked in for the room at least, not sure about the flights. Ugh, more waiting and not knowing.

UPDATE 3: GOT JOB. GOING.
